I’m a Malaysian. I’m proud of being one of them. I will stand tall like no body business and hit the gong of proud and yell to the rest of the world that I’m Malaysian.
I was born in one of the oldest hospital in Malaysia, University Hospital Petaling Jaya. I was the second of three children. I was born Malay. I was born Muslim. Born into a Malay Family in Malaysia made me automatically a Muslim. It is part of Malaysian legislation. If you are not Chinese or Indians or Portuguese or etceteras, you will be Malay if you are a Muslim. Regardless your ancestry is from Yemen, India, Chempa, Indonesia, Philippine or Thailand, if you are a Muslim you will automatically forced into becoming Malay.
Due to this Malaysia has always recognized as an unstable government. A lot of critics from western countries were thrown to the Malaysian government over this issue again and again. The funny thing is, very little complaints were made by Malaysians themselves.
Chinese and Indians are happy in Malaysia. The Malaysian Chinese, they are the back bone of the Malaysian economy, just like everywhere else in the world. The Malaysian Indians, they are the power house for the Malaysian Law system. Looking at these achievements by the Non Malays contradicts the claims by the west. Despite the poor claims, Malaysia has continuously highly regarded by the East as one of the best example in legislates a multi racial country with regards to democracy.
It is easily explained the reason behind this if we understand clearly the concept of Malaysian Democracy. If you want to know further, I mean the real Malaysian Democracy, stop reading articles from the Western Media. Start reading the real facts.
Like I said I’m a Muslim. I was born Muslim. I believe in monotheistic, the belief that there is only one God. I believe Allah (the most merciful) has made the human being in races, so that we will get to know and understand each other. We then will unite and join forces in pursuing His objective. Hence, physical appearances and characters are merely one part of His test which needs to be unfold by us the human being in order to succeed in our current life here and the day after.
God is fair. The way He places things for his creations distinctively portrays to that particular creation only. No duplicates. Each of them is unique. All of them are beautiful in their own ways. He made his creations for a purpose. Our knowledge is limited. Only He knows what his creations are made and good for.
Hence, to me being a Malaysian is very important. Malaysia is a democracy country. I believe in a country which practices democracy. Same for all regardless what race u are. No special treatments. No cronyism. No businesses being controlled by a certain race. No language barrier.
We should create our own identity. A Malaysian’s identity. Not the identity that we have received from our ancestors. Think deeply and you can see that we have none. We get it from other people. We get it from mainland China, from India, from Pakistan, from Java. But nothing genuinely came from Malaysia. We should have our own culture. The Malaysia-Ethnic culture that doesn’t separate races. That’s what we truly need.
